Laptops for King's Scholars students

Tablets for King’s Scholars students

We have worked with the King’s Scholars programme for a number of years, helping them support students through Key Stage 3. Students follow a weekly programme of activities along with visits to King’s College and other institutions; some students continue to follow different programmes with King’s Scholars through Key Stage 4 and beyond.

As activities had to stop through the various lockdowns, King’s Scholars have looked at how they can continue to support the students. Following a survey or the parents and carers of the participating students, we identified those who may have to share a device with siblings or other family members. This has resulted in King’s Scholars providing a tablet device to every student in Year 8 and Year 9 who is participating in the programme.

This is an amazing act of generosity and it was lovely to see the smiles when the devices were handed out by Mr Wilson in a special assembly. They were very excited and have been sent home with information from King’s Scholars about some useful apps to support their learning.

Designed by King’s College London’s Widening Participation Department, the King's Scholars scheme is designed to equip KS2/3 students with:

  • The knowledge to access highly selective universities
  • Metacognitive skills (in the form of King’s Scholar skills and SOCKS stops) which are proven to raise in-school attainment
