COVID-19 Year 11 & 13 Provision and Exams

Exams updates

    1. Exams will not happen in May/June
    2. Students will ‘get the grades they deserve’. They will not be ‘disadvantaged’. These will be based primarily on their predicted grades.
    3. Students will have the opportunity to 'sit' exams in the Autumn Term (Sep-Dec) - however it is not clear for which subjects or how this will be administered.

Our advice:

Coursework: Students should endeavour to ensure that all coursework is up to date and submitted before the Easter holidays (deadline: Friday 3rd April) as this will help teachers to form their predicted grades.

Year 11 Next Steps

As we move into the academic Summer term of this unusual year, it is time for us to start thinking about where our students will be from September 2020. Information on the transition between Year 11 and Post-16 education can be found by clicking here; a letter to Year 11 students with details on learning options over the summer term can be found here; and a Goodluck letter highlighting a few key notes moving forward here.

Sixth Form Learning Provision

Bacon’s College staff will be providing Sixth Form students with ‘remote learning’ lessons (starting Monday 23rd March) which will roughly follow their school timetables. We encourage you all to check the students’ email, the school website and ‘Teams’ daily. They should continue to work on and submit coursework/exam paper questions for marking and feedback to their teachers.

In the event that students are out of school for several months, we would sincerely encourage them to continue with their studies, and start preparing for sixth form/university using online resources so that they are not too far behind when they start the new academic year.

Careers Advice Years 11-13

We are very aware that our Year 11 and 13 students are due to complete their GCSE and A Level courses respectively and possibly leave the College at the end of this academic year. While many students are very clear about their future careers pathway and have applied to Colleges and Universities, some are still unsure about their futures and will need independent help and guidance.

  • Our careers advisor, Yvonne Levenefearnside will continue to provide one-2-one appointments via Skype. These appointments will be aimed at Year 11, 12 and 13 in the first instance. Ms Levenefearnside will be supported by Ms Burgess who can also make appointments for students. Please email careers@baconscollege.co.uk to book this.
  • There are many online work related opportunities available during these times – including online work experience. Now is a really good time to browse our Careers and Work Related Studies section to see what is out there. Do sign up especially for those Easter holiday opportunities.
