Take a look at some of the highlights from our celebration of Black history, culture and identity throughout October.
A very important date in the Bacon's College calendar, Black History Month, kicked off with a whole College assembly celebrating pioneering figures from the past and present day who have made huge contributions to society from cinema to science.
In lessons, students have been studying people of colour who have influenced each subject area, such as British painter, Chris Ofili, and Physicist Dr Mark Richards, AKA DJ Kemist.
There has also been a series of visiting speakers, workshops and events to celebrate Black History Month including a talk from Yewande Akinola MBE, and also from Fred Ebami, and tomorrow sees a group of students going in to central London for Africa Fashion Week, a World Afro Day Assembly, samba and steel pans. Another group went off to the Curly Treats Black Hair Exhibition too. We've also had more talks from mentors from Badu Sports and Fallon Law, and we even had a visit from Ian Wright!
Design students in years 8 and 9 have been working on a really exciting stained glass project as part of "We See You", a collaboration between Southwark Diocese, The Clewer Initiative, stained glass specialists, Reyntiens Studio and the Worshipful Company of Glaziers Aimed at raising awareness of all aspects of modern slavery, the project will culminate with an exhibition of works at the end of November in Southwark Cathedral.
