Equality, Diversity & Inclusivity at Bacon's College

Bacon's College is proud of our diverse community of staff and students and welcomes those of all faiths.

Bacon's College is extremely proud of our diverse and inclusive College community enriched by the wide variety of backgrounds of our students and staff. We welcome staff and students of all faiths and none, and seek to raise awareness of all protected characteristics.

Bacon's College Equality & Diversity Pledge

Bacon’s is a thriving community that is welcoming of students of all faiths and those of none. Staff and students value the distinctive nature of its Christian ethos to which every member of its community contributes. It celebrates the differences that define it as well as the common humanity that unites all its members. The value system and ethos of Bacon’s is inclusive of all within a strong Christian ethos, characterised by the quality and openness of the positive relationships between students, staff and the wider community. These are foregrounded in our lessons but also in our extra-curricular offer, ranging from sport and debating to charity work and peer mediation.

We are inclusive of all faiths, as well as none, and support unity between different religions, cultures and beliefs. All our students are individuals and every student is valued for their uniqueness and the skills and aptitudes they bring to the College.

We pledge to

  • Promote tolerance, friendship and understanding of a range of religions and cultures
through different aspects of our curriculum.
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and
people who do not share it.
  • Foster good relations across all characteristics – between people who share a protected
characteristic and people who do not share it
  • Remove or minimise disadvantages suffered by people which are connected to a particular
characteristic they have (e.g. pupils with disabilities, or gay pupils who are being subjected to homophobic bullying)
  • Take steps to meet the particular needs of people who have a particular characteristic (e.g.
enabling Muslim pupils to pray at prescribed times)
  • Encourage people who have a particular characteristic to participate fully in any activities
(e.g. encouraging all pupils to be involved in the full range of school enrichment activities).
