Supporting Students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Bacon’s College is a Church of England community and, as such, is committed to ensuring that every individual is valued, respected and supported to flourish. Our ethos underpins a fully inclusive approach to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), where all students are encouraged and enabled to succeed.

We are ambitious for all students, including those with SEND. We aim to provide a broad, balanced and knowledge-rich curriculum that is accessible to all, supported through high-quality teaching, appropriate adaptations and targeted support. Our intention is that students with SEND achieve well, develop independence, and are fully prepared for the next stage of education, employment or training.

We are committed to creating an inclusive, safe and stimulating environment where barriers to learning are identified early and addressed effectively. Through this, we support not only academic progress, but also students’ personal development, confidence and well-being.

Our approach

  • High-quality teaching is the first response: Every teacher is responsible for the progress and development of all students in their class. Adaptive teaching ensures that students with SEND can access the same ambitious curriculum as their peers.
  • Whole-school responsibility: Supporting students with SEND is a whole-College priority. All staff work collaboratively to ensure a consistent and joined-up approach.
  • Early identification and effective support: We use a graduated approach to identify needs, assess progress and put in place appropriate provision that is regularly reviewed for impact.
  • Partnership working: We work closely with parents and carers, valuing their insights and ensuring clear communication. We also collaborate with external agencies, the local authority and specialist services where appropriate.
  • Preparing for adulthood: We support students to develop independence, resilience and the skills needed for successful transition to their next stage.
At Bacon’s College, we are committed to ensuring that students with SEND are fully included in all aspects of school life and are supported to achieve their full potential.
