Education With Character

At Bacon’s College, academic success goes hand in hand with the development of strong Character, rooted in our Christian values of Compassion, Courage, Faith, Integrity and Respect.

We aim to develop resilient, principled and purposeful young people who contribute positively to their community and to society.
We want our students to:
  • Be of good character – compassionate, respectful, acting with integrity and doing the right thing even when no one is watching
  • Have character – showing courage, determination and perseverance in the face of challenge
  • Be characterful – curious, confident and reflective, able to express who they are and to have faith in what they stand for

How We Develop Character

We believe Character is taught, caught and sought.

  • Taught through our tutor time Character programme, Year group and Key Stage assemblies, PSHE and across the taught curriculum
  • Caught by recognising and rewarding positive behaviour and values in everyday school life
  • Sought through enrichment, service, leadership and real‑world opportunities
We are proud of our dedicated Character Team, which brings together our Christian Ethos, PSHE, Careers and Student Voice. Friday morning tutor time is dedicated to Character across the College, with Sixth Form students also taking part in weekly Best in Everyone sessions.

Our PSHE curriculum (Years 7–13) is carefully sequenced to build on prior learning and meet all statutory requirements, with College Values and Fundamental British Values embedded throughout.

The Bacon’s Charter provides a core entitlement for every student throughout their journey at the College.

Enrichment and Extra‑Curricular
Our wide-ranging enrichment programme enables students to try new things and develop confidence and character. Clubs include sport, music, science, drama, dance, art, geography, computing and academic support. Productions and performances play a key role in College life, and all staff and students are encouraged to contribute to the enrichment opportunities on offer. We also run a successful Duke of Edinburgh scheme, with students from Year 9 onwards able to access Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.
