Student Leadership & School Council

Our Sixth Form Leadership Team are appointed at the end of Year 12 to be the voice of the students and lead whole College community initiatives such as the annual Advent Appeal and Harvest Appeal.

Community appeals form part of our Faith in Action as a Church of England College.
Advent Appeals have included a sponsored, historic walk across London, fundraising and collating donated items to gift to refugees living in London.

The role of the Sixth Form Leadership Team includes:
  • Being the voice of students
  • Leading and supporting college events, e.g. Open Days, etc.
  • Chairing meetings and supporting younger students to develop ideas to improve areas of the school.
  • Developing younger pupils understanding of what leadership is and passing on experience to help develop their ability to lead.

Head Girl and Head Boy

Two members of the Team are appointed as Head Girl and Head Boy, who then take responsibility for leading the team through the year.

Year 11 Prefects

Being able to lead and work alongside other pupils is an important skill to develop for any role that students wish to take on in the future. Year 11 Prefects are attached to a form group to work with the Tutor Rep and assist them in working with the form, to identify any key issues that pupils would like addressed around the school.

Student council meetings generally take place on Friday mornings, and having the council present and visible in the school allows students to bridge the gap between SLT and students.

The Student Council is divided into five sections:

Fundraising Committee

The role of the fundraising committee is to create opportunities and events to raise money for charities and different needs in our local areas. In a fundraising committee meeting, the students would discuss logistics of how best to organise a fundraising event. These ideas are then put forwards to SLT or they collaborate with the Sixth Form Leadership team. Examples of different fundraising events that have taken place in the past include:

  • Mufti Day
  • Advent Appeal Bake Sale
  • Robes Project

Food Committee

The food committee oversees food and nutrition-related matters at Bacon’s. Members of the food committee have historically helped carry out surveys on food quality and standards. In 2025, students worked with Bread Ahead to make bread and soups at Borough Market which was then sold to raise money for charity. In 2026-2027, we are looking to collaborate with companies such as Zero Carbon Foods and Bite Back, which have a strong eco-friendly and quality-focused ethos, respectively.

Teaching and Learning Committee

The Teaching and Learning Committee focuses on the quality and experience of their learning. Student voice is something that we greatly value at Bacon’s, and so getting feedback from the students themselves is an effective tool to directly know what needs improvement. In a Teaching and Learning meeting, the students would discuss issues they have with their learning and come up with actionable ways to eliminate these issues.

Student Wellbeing committee

The student wellbeing committee places its focus in the mental health, welfare, and quality of life at Bacon’s. In October 2025, the student wellbeing committee led an anti-bullying assembly for anti-bullying week. The student wellbeing committee has collaborated with Paper Gardens in the past to work on mindfulness and understanding themselves better.

School Environment Committee

The school environment committee focuses on the environment and sustainability. Previously, the council ran its own eco-club every Thursday where they would discuss how to improve sustainability at Bacon’s. This committee tends to have overlaps with the other committees because caring for the environment requires the involvement of various sectors, and so it has more of a social responsibility.
