Supporting the whole child

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go”
Joshua 1:9 (NIV).

A Bacon’s student has the courage to follow their convictions, to challenge injustice, to persevere in order to succeed and to remain steadfast in the face of adversity.

We take the well-being and safety of all our students very seriously. We have a culture and climate of students speaking openly and honestly about concerns they have, how they are feeling and worries they may have about school and their personal lives. We offer support for students through our superb pastoral support systems of tutors, heads of year and our inclusion team.

Student Safeguarding

Student Wellbeing & Safeguarding

At Bacon's we take the wellbeing and safety of all our students very seriously.

We have a culture and climate of students speaking openly and honestly about concerns they have, how they are feeling and worries they may have about school and their personal lives. We offer support for students through our superb pastoral support systems of tutors, heads of year and our inclusion team.

All of our staff receive regular training on keeping students safe and we have a rigorous system whereby staff can also report concerns on the well-being and welfare of students. All adults who regularly work on our site are required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to prevent unsuitable people from working with pupils. All visitors are closely supervised when on site.

If you are concerned about the well-being, welfare, safety and health of your own child, you should contact your child’s Head of Year or Form Tutor for a meeting to discuss your concerns further.

If you have a concern about the well-being, welfare, safety and health of another child who attends Bacon's you should contact the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), Tom Sargeant, on the email address below.

Student Support Services

Student welfare & attendance

Student welfare & attendance

The monitoring of attendance falls under the remit of Students Support Services. The student welfare officer works with students who are:

  • College refusers
  • College refusers with parental collusion
  • Students with very poor attendance
  • Students who have regular patterns of absence
  • Students who have poor attendance and particularly difficult / delicate home circumstances
  • Students who have poor attendance; the Personal Tutor and/or other staff have pursued the problem and the attendance problem still continues

The student welfare officer also works closely with all parents and is there to support them with personal issues which impact upon their child and his/her engagement with school and learning.

Working with our parents & carers

Two-way communication is essential for us to achieve the best in our young people.

We welcome feedback from parents and carers as we believe it enables us to better support our students.

Each term we host an Online Parent Forum which will share a short presentation about a pre-publicised topic, e.g. exams & assessments or personal development, followed by the opportunity for parents/carers to ask the Leadership Team any questions on any topic.

Read more about how we work with parents here.

Student Support Services

Student Support Services

In order to support our young people through difficult times, we have Student Support Services to which staff, students and parents can refer.

The aim of the Student Support Services is to provide high quality care, guidance & support for students so that they can grow into healthy, happy & hopeful young people with the capacity to learn, the ability to respect others and the creativity to make the most of the opportunities offered to them by Bacon’s.

Leaders use the school values as the backbone to their programme for pupils’
personal development. Pupils are taught to respect each other and celebrate differences, for example in terms of race and sexuality.
