Homework

We have used current research to inform our homework policy. Literature produced by the Education Endowment Fund (EEF) indicates that homework has a positive impact on student progress (on average +5 months per student), and this effect is particularly noticeable with students in secondary schools. The purpose of our homework is to reinforce, extend and support learning in the classroom. Our homework is designed to:

  • Promote long term memory retention by facilitating retrieval practice
  • Allow pupils to practice or consolidate a particular skill
  • Develop independent learning

To support pupils with developing strong time management skills in KS3, we have a centralised homework timetable.

KS3 Homework Timetable - Module 1 only

In Module 1, we have a slightly modified timetable for year 7, to support them with transition into secondary school.

In addition to following this homework timetable, some of your other subjects will set additional homework. Please check SMHW for more details.

To support further, we have an extended school day on Wednesdays, so all students in years 7-9 students have a designated study period called independent study time (or ‘IST’). This is an opportunity for students to complete homework independently. Students that require additional support with homework are identified and provided with additional support during homework club.

All parents and/or carers are given a log in to Show My Homework, to support them in understanding what children is learning. Links to the online platforms used can be found below:
